"Of the four wars fought in my life, none came about because the United States of America was too strong"

Ronald Reagan

"To be prepared for War is the best way to ensure the Peace"

George Washington

Although I grew up in Chicago, I have now spent more time away from the Windy City than when I lived there. I have been told that I still have a Chicago accent (whatever that means) and my two favorite football teams are the Chicago Bears and whoever is playing against Green Bay!

Over the course of my Navy active duty career we moved many times. Among other places, we spent a lot of time living in Charleston, SC, Virginia Beach, VA, Annapolis, MD, Monterey, CA and Newport, RI.  Now we have lived in Mount Airy, MD since 1997, and finally we can say we are putting down some roots.

I especially like to hear from old classmates:

  •   Lane Technical High School, Chicago, Illinois, 1971
  •   Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, 1975
  •   U S Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California, 1986

And old shipmates from my years at sea:

USS Sellers (DDG-11)

USS Truett (FF-1095)

USS Seattle (AOE-3)

USS Schnectady (LST 1185)

USS Detroit (AOE-4)

I also like to hear from my former students:

  •   I was Associate Chair of the Mathematics Department at the U S Naval Academy from 1990 to 1994

  •   During my time on the faculty of USNA I also held an adjunct faculty appointment at Anne Arundel Community College, where I taught evening classes in the Mathematics Department

  •   When I left the Naval Academy I went to the Naval Postgraduate School where I joined the faculty of the Operations Research Department from 1994 to 1997

  Useful News and Information sites:
I also have started a blog.  It can be found at http://billsthoughts.kroshlfamily.net  I have not had a blog before, so I don't really know how it will interact with this site.  I think that this site will have more permanent information, and the blog more transitory things.

Right now this part of the website is a little thin, but I will work on it as I get a chance.  I spent most of my time working on Tina's finch pages and getting those up to speed.
